Important News from CIGNA Government Services


On March 28, 2011, CIGNA and BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (S.C. BlueCross) announced that CIGNA Government Services (CGS), which is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, has been acquired by S.C. BlueCross.

What is most important to share with you today is that our name will change but the high level of service you’ve come to expect from us will remain exactly the same! In fact, CGS, LLC will remain in place and all current CGS employees, their roles and responsibilities will automatically transfer with this transaction. You have my personal commitment that you will continue to receive award winning services from our company and that you will see no disruption in those services!

CGS and our predecessor companies have worked closely with the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services since the beginning of the Medicare program in 1966. Our long history as a Medicare contractor has given us the opportunity to work with health care providers and suppliers in nearly all 50 states and several US territories. CGS currently serves Medicare providers in Idaho and North Carolina through two Medicare Part B contracts. We also process and pay Medicare claims for over 14 million Medicare beneficiaries and over 100,000 providers and suppliers for Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Virginia, and West Virginia through our DME MAC contract for Jurisdiction C. And, beginning in May 2011, we will expand to an additional 16 states as we provide a variety of claims and customer services for hospitals, physicians, and Home Health and Hospice providers as part of our new A/B MAC Jurisdiction 15 Medicare Contract. This includes providing Medicare Part A and Part B services to the states of Ohio and Kentucky.

The transaction is expected to take several weeks to complete and we are committed to working closely with S.C. BlueCross to ensure a smooth transition for you.
